About A Dementia Conversation

Our Story

A Dementia Conversation was founded by Liane Fletcher to honour her mother, Dorothy ('Dotty') Fletcher, who lived with Alzheimer’s for 7+ years, and passed away in April 2025.

Through the years of caring for Dotty, Liane discovered how vital connection, compassion, and communication are for families and friends, navigating dementia and how important it is for everyone to understand, recognise the signs and reduce the stigma surrounding diagnosis.

Liane's longtime friend Antonia Haralambis has been by her side through her mother's dementia journey and has provided immense support in helping Liane bring A Dementia Conversation to life.

What began as a private gathering of friends has grown into a community movement to:

  • Share the latest research and prevention strategies
  • Offer practical support for families and carers
  • Reduce stigma by making dementia visible

Liane is currently a Dementia advocate for Dementia Australia and speaks regularly at events for aged care providers sharing her personal journey, supporting her late mother Dotty. She is also actively involved on multiple committees for Dementia Australia.
