Welcome to A Dementia Conversation

Created in loving memory of Dotty Fletcher, A Dementia Conversation is a growing series of community events designed to make the invisible world of dementia visible.

Our mission is to encourage conversations, support families, and raise vital funds for dementia research.

Why this Matters

Dementia is the leading cause of death in Australia

Yet it is still too often misunderstood or hidden.

In March 2025, Dementia Australia released new prevalence data (commissioned via Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) showing:

  • Dementia is the leading cause of death in Australia with Alzheimer's being the most common form.
  • An estimated 430,000 Australians are currently living with dementia.
  • This number is projected to rise to 1.1m by 2065
  • Among those living with dementia, approximately 29,000 people have younger-onset dementia (i.e. onset before age 65). That number is forecast to grow to ~41,000 by 2054.
  • Up to 45 per cent of dementia cases may be preventable through targeted lifestyle changes.

At every 'A Dementia Conversation' event

  • Every conversation we spark helps families feel less alone and equips communities with knowledge and compassion.
  • By attending our events you will:
    • Learn from world-class researchers and clinicians about prevention, early signs, and latest breakthroughs.
    • Discover practical ways to communicate and care for loved ones.
    • Become part of a movement to end stigma and isolation.

Because when we talk openly, we break the silence that makes dementia invisible.
